Syrian Refugees Suffer 'Revenge Attacks' in Lebanon

A recent report by Human Rights Watch documents 11 cases in which Syrians in Lebanon, or people perceived to be Syrians, were violently attacked in their homes or on the street by Lebanese private citizens. A recent report by Human Rights Watch says Lebanese civilians are carrying out "revenge attacks" on Syrian refugees in response to the execution of captured Lebanese soldiers by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other extremist groups. “The attacks against Syrians, most of them refugees, are being carried out in a climate of official indifference and discrimination," the report says, "with the violence appearing in some cases to be attempts to expel Syrians from specific neig

World Food Programme to stop feeding Syrian refugees due to lack of funds

The UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos announced on Tuesday that the World Food Programme (WFP) would be obliged to stop distributing food to Syrian refugees within two months should it did not receive additional funds. During a meeting at the UN Security Council, Al-Quds newspaper quoted Amos as saying that, "Without additional funds, the WFP will be obliged to halt all operations within two months," just as the harshness of winter is arriving. She said that the WFP had already reduced food aid portions in order to cover more beneficiaries and to last as long as possible.
