Supreme Court Upholds Travel Ban

On April 25, 2018, the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees (MFA) joined immigrant rights groups and activists outside the Supreme Court as oral arguments in Trump v. Hawaii began to decide if the executive order violates federal law. The Supreme Court today in a 5-4 decision affirmed the President’s right to issue a sweeping indefinite travel ban on individuals from certain countries. The ban while including North Korea and Venezuela is clearly targeted at Muslims, since the other countries falling under the ban have Muslim majorities. Today, we join people across the world for World Refugee Day to celebrate the courage and resiliency of refugees past and present, recognizing the hardships they have faced, and the determination with which they have created new lives. We acknowledge and remember that the United States has been a leader in protecting and resettling refugees. As we face significant challenges to the U.S. refugee resettlement program, we honor refugees’ indomitable spirit in overcoming adversity, and the many positive contributions they make to our communities. The United States is No Longer Providing Safe Haven for Syrian Refugees. But It Should Be

This is pitiful in comparison to the approximately 3,000 admitted in 2017 and the 15,000 in 2016.
