Today, we join people across the world for World Refugee Day to celebrate the courage and resiliency of refugees past and present, recognizing the hardships they have faced, and the determination with which they have created new lives. We acknowledge and remember that the United States has been a leader in protecting and resettling refugees.
As we face significant challenges to the U.S. refugee resettlement program, we honor refugees’ indomitable spirit in overcoming adversity, and the many positive contributions they make to our communities. MFA, the nation's largest interfaith alliance for refugees, urges all Americans to follow the precept of welcoming the stranger.
In the below video by Mincha Moment, Dr. Georgette Bennett, founder of the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, reflects on how her faith and thankfulness for the opportunities she has had, inspires her to help and advocate for asylum seekers. "We are commanded to respond to suffering. We are commanded to care for the stranger. We are commanded to provide refuge," Dr. Bennett said.
Join us in mobilizing support for the U.S. resettlement program, and rational humane policies that will help refugees live in safety and rebuild their lives here in the United States.
