MFA Statement in Response to the Shootings
at Tree of Life Synagogue
A Senseless Act of Violence Calls for Unity and Civility
The Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees (MFA) extends its deepest sympathies to the victims, families and community of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.
MFA stands with its long-time partner, HIAS, in condemning the anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and the anti-immigrant and anti-refugee sentiments that appear to have motivated this heinous act of hatred.
We must all stand firmly against the rhetoric of anger and division that has become so pervasive in our public discourse. Such language only serves to motivate, embolden and legitimize those who believe that their views justify violence against innocents. This divisiveness cannot be allowed to subsume America’s core values of diversity and tolerance.
Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugess
The Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees (MFA), a project of the Tides Center, is a coalition of 100 faith-based and secular organizations. MFA’s mission is to mobilize the interfaith response to the Syrian humanitarian crisis, raise funds to alleviate suffering, cultivate partnerships to advance future stability in the region, advocate for sensible and humane refugee policies, and create awareness of the facts, the needs, and the opportunities for positive action.
